Is there a warranty on the
Blynd?
We do not have a written warranty but we will replace any
defective parts at
no charge. How long will it last?
With minimal maintenance, it should last a long time. We have customers who
are still using Blynds that they purchased in 1980 which was the first year
we manufactured them. Are they insulated?
No. The black colour will draw heat on a sunny day. On extremely cold days
a small propane heater will keep you pretty warm. Will the weather damage the Blynd?
There is a UV stabilizer in the plastic to prevent weather deterioration. The
material itself is rated to withstand a temperature range of -60 to +150
degrees Fahrenheit. If you are in a part of the country where you have ice or snow
conditions, it is possible that your windows could freeze in the aluminium
track. We recommend
keeping some anti-freeze handy in order to melt the ice. You can also drill
some small drain holes in the window track to allow water to seep and not stay
in the track and freeze. The roof will not withstand a heavy snow load. In order to prevent it from collapsing, a temporary "t" brace
made out of 2x4's should work on the 4x 4 single Blynd. The 4x 8 double wide
will
need additional support on the inside perimeter. We recommend framing the inside
with 2x 4's. Is the Blynd airtight?
No….. There are small openings around the door and windows that yellow
jackets and other insects can go through. Can you paint the Blynd?
Yes but the paint pigment will not penetrate the plastic. If you do decide
to "camo" the Blynd you will have to re-do it. Can I use it as a ground blind?
Yes. You need to keep it off the ground to allow air under the floor to prevent
it from rotting and you need to tie it down. If you use wood posts, railroad
ties or even a wood pallet, you can lag bolt the Blynd to any of these to
keep it from blowing over. Can I lock the Blynd?
With our new door system you can lock the Blynd. Is the floor treated?
No. We provide a ½" plywood floor. In order to extend the life
of the floor we recommend that you paint it or water seal it prior to assembly.
Are they easy to assemble?
If you have a cordless drill motor, a Phillips head screw bit and a helper,
you can assemble the 4x4 Blynd in 45 to 60 minutes. The 4x8 will probably take
about 1 ½ hours. The towers will vary in assembly time depending on the height and model What kind of towers do you have and how much weight
will they support?
The towers are made of emt conduit. The legs are 1 ½" in diameter
and the cross bracing is 1" in diameter. We have put a thousand lbs. On
top of a 10’ tower and it held the weight without any problems. How do you ship the Blynd and what does it cost?
The Blynd and towers have to go by common carrier as the boxes and bundles
are too large to ship on ups. The cost is based on the total weight and destination. Do you sell replacement parts?
Yes. We can provide you with any component that you need. If my Blynd gets blown over is it repairable?
99% of the time you can reassemble the Blynd. Typically it will pop at the
seams where it is screwed together. Using the screws and clips. Just pick
a spot near the original hole and screw it back together. If you end up with a tear in the plastic, you can use some silicone to patch
it. If the roof or panels get twisted as a result of the fall, most of the time
they will return to their original shape after they have been exposed to the
sun and warm weather.
One of the most important things to do is to secure your Blynd with a tie down
system. Our Blynds are lightweight and will blow over if they are not properly
secured. If you have a 4x8 Blynd, face the narrow side in the direction of the prevailing
wind. This will reduce the odds of the Blynd blowing over if you're tie-downs
get loose. To extend the life of the floor, paint it with oil based exterior paint or
a water sealer product prior to assembly together. Our windows slide in outside aluminium track. In very windy
conditions, the windows have a tendency to "walk" in the track
and may blow out. You can do several things to prevent this from happening. From the inside of the Blynd and with the windows closed, drill
a small hole on each side of the window opening and then insert a 16 penny
nail in each
hole for stops.
